Enge could replace Janis this weekend at home

Tomas Enge could well replace his compatriot Erik Janis in Brno, Czech Republic for the second A1GP race of the 2007/2008 season.

Indeed, according to the A1 Team Czech Republic, Janis, a young and still inexperienced driver, is expected to bear too much pressure for his home race and would therefore prefer to use a more experienced driver.

At just 20 years old, he has already impressed his team and scored a point during race 2 at Zandvoort two weeks ago, and it is not for performance reasons that he would be replaced (temporarily).

« We have nothing against Erik [Janis], » commented Antonin Charouz, the team boss. « If he is fast and efficient during the Friday sessions, we will keep him for the whole weekend. »

« It is quite normal to name several drivers during a weekend to have multiple possibilities for the races. »

According to Charouz, it was merely a backup plan, in case Janis would not be up to the task at home.

« A home race in such an important championship always brings a lot of pressure and we want to be as efficient as possible, » he confirms.

Enge was already racing with the team in A1 GP during the 2006/2007 season and had a good weekend in Brno, securing second place in race 2 behind Alex Yoong.

« Tomas [Enge] has much more experience compared to Erik [Janis] and he also confirmed that he no longer felt any pain in his left elbow and therefore he might be able to race this weekend. » concluded the Czech.
