Race 2 – Géné signs his 1st victory, Y. Muller exceptional

Jordi Géné won the second race of the day in Italy on the Monza circuit. The Spaniard took the opportunity to claim his first victory in the WTCC category as he started in the 7th position.

Yvan Muller made the best move of the weekend by finishing 5th in this second race and took the opportunity to reclaim the lead in the overall standings, tied on points with Andy Priaulx, who didn’t score any points this weekend…

From the start, the tone is set. The Chevrolet team works collectively and manages to hold the first two positions but are under pressure from Jordi Gené and Tom Coronel in the other Seat. Thompson in the Alfa is not far behind.

Still at the start, Augusto Farfus is hit by Coronnel behind him, causing him to spin and slide into the grass. The BMW driver violently hits the barrier, which propels the car back onto the track and incredibly through the pack without touching any competitors. Yvan Muller saw the BMW pass 10cm from his Seat.

After 2 laps under pressure, Huff’s number 2 Chevrolet gives way to Gené and his TDi engine. And with two laps to go, the Spaniard also takes advantage over Larini, who was in the lead.

Behind, Yvan Muller manages to secure the 5th position starting from 8th, and he won’t let it go.

Thompson, in the Alfa 156, applied pressure until the end for second place but couldn’t overtake Larini.

Ranking of Race 2

In the championship, Muller made a wonderful move by scoring 14 points against 0 for his direct competitor. He therefore takes the lead in the championship on equal terms, with one meeting left before the end of the season…

Head to Macau to witness the crowning of either the Frenchman or Andy Priaulx. However, the Brazilian Farfus should not be ruled out as he can still win the title.
