The weekend didn’t start very well, and well, it didn’t end very well either! In the championship, the team lost its dominance over Honda, another Japanese team. And to top it all off, Toro Rosso woke up the weekend before last of the season to overtake the Japanese team by a large margin.
But for this Chinese GP, Davidson was the first to retire after a few laps of the race. As for Sato, he finished 14th out of the 17 remaining cars. Perhaps that’s the small bright spot of the day.
Takuma Sato – 14th
“It was an exciting but difficult race for us. I had a good start, gaining some positions by making good overtakes in wet conditions. But within a few laps, we had a mechanical problem.”
“I immediately relayed this by radio to the team, but there was nothing we could do. In these changing conditions, I was able to catch up with a few cars in front of me. We were able to finish the race, but the car was far from ideal.”
Anthony Davidson – retirement
“It was an extremely disappointing weekend. We had some minor issues with Rubens, which caused me to lose a lot of positions. I managed to come back and fight with some other cars. But in the incident with Rubens, I sustained damage to my car that opened my brake duct, causing extremely high temperatures.”
“I returned to the pit to try to fix it, and then thinking everything was back in order, I went back out. The brakes never returned to normal, and instead of putting the team and myself in danger, I decided to withdraw from the race.”
Aguri Suzuki – Director
“It was again a difficult race for us in tough conditions. Taku did a good job and it’s very frustrating that Anthony had that little collision at the beginning of the race with Barrichello. I would like to thank each member of the team for continuing to work hard, and I would also like to congratulate the two Toro Rosso drivers who did a good job today.”
“We have more than one race this season, so we will continue to maintain our fighting spirit and try to replicate the result we achieved last year in Brazil.”
