As we mentioned yesterday, the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) met today in the presence of Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel, and Mark Webber. Let’s recall that Vettel had collided with Webber in front of him under safety car conditions, having been caught off guard by Lewis Hamilton’s heavy braking.

The FIA stated in a press release:

“No sanctions were taken against the pilots.”

Hamilton could have lost 10 places on the starting grid for the Chinese Grand Prix if he had been found guilty of this questionable maneuver.

The Briton is 12 points behind Fernando Alonso in the drivers’ championship and 17 points behind Kimi Räikkönen, the only two who can still mathematically hope to win the title.

An amateur camera had filmed the scene and sent it to “YouTube,” as the official cameras had not captured any footage of the accident. The FIA watched this video for a long time and concluded that Hamilton was not involved.

Note that Vettel was also supposed to lose 10 places on the grid, but the FIA admitted that under such circumstances (wet track, heavy rain) Vettel did not do it on purpose, so he will not be penalized for the Chinese Grand Prix.
