Fernando Alonso has chosen his side today. The Spaniard agrees with Webber and Vettel regarding their accident, which apparently was caused by Lewis Hamilton while he was following the Safety Car.

The English driver allegedly caught up with the safety car too quickly, then braked unexpectedly, causing Webber to slow down and pushing Sébastian Vettel, who was 3rd at the time (in lap 45), to hit the rear wing of the Red Bull driver, forcing both drivers of the Austrian beverage team to abandon their good positions.

Fernando Alonso also followed his teammate for 19 laps behind the safety car after the start of the Japanese GP. He then noticed some somewhat strange movements.

« I also caught up with Lewis two or three times. It seems we all agree… » commented Alonso.

The Spaniard is currently 12 points behind his teammate, and if the incident goes further, Hamilton could be penalized with a 10-place grid drop in next Saturday’s qualifying, which would allow the double world champion to get back in the race for the title.

« I think something can happen – that’s Formula 1. Until mathematically you have no chance in the championship, you don’t give up. »

Lewis Hamilton has been blamed by Mark Webber and Vettel for this collision. Alonso, engaged in a psychological war, also blames him, but for the young Englishman, the story could prove to be complicated. Indeed, a spectator in the stands in Japan was able to film the collision between Vettel and Webber, which none of the official TV cameras managed to capture.

The FIA, and more specifically the FOM, has announced that it has opened an investigation into this incident to determine if Hamilton deserves a penalty or not, in which case, the championship, with two races remaining in an already historic season, could be reignited for Alonso and Räikkönen.
