For this first day of the WRC Rally in Spain, the Shakedown took place, serving the drivers to thoroughly analyze the stages. A particularly difficult task when the road is very wet, certainly aided by the very annoying fog also affecting visibility.

The Shakedown stage, which can be run multiple times by the drivers, is on asphalt and thus wet and slippery with an added lack of visibility. And in these tricky conditions, it’s Sébastien Loeb who sets the benchmark time. The Frenchman leads ahead of two drivers who came specifically for the Spanish rally, namely Xevi Pons (in the 3rd Subaru) and François Duval.

Manfred Stohl (Citroën OMV) and Chris Atkinson (Subaru) are the drivers who drove the most this morning. The Austrian and the Australian accumulated five runs. On the other end of the scale, Dani Sordo (Citroën), Marcus Grönholm (Ford), and Andreas Mikkelsen (Ford) were only seen twice.

« On the first part of the shakedown, visibility was not good due to fog. The road was slippery and we are slower than last year on this same stage. » explains Grönholm, who recorded the fourth fastest time.
