Sébastien Loeb doesn’t really have a choice. If he wants to win a fourth world championship, he will have to triumph in Spain at the Catalonia rally and prevent Markus Gronholm, who leads by 10 points, from even securing a podium finish.
For this, he will need to be assisted by his teammates and Citroën drivers such as Duval or Sordo.
« It is essential to secure a victory in Spain if we want to keep our title chances, » commented the 33-year-old Frenchman on his website.
« If at the same time my teammate [Dani Sordo] could manage to get ahead of Gronholm, it would be a very good weekend. We know it won’t be easy, but that is our goal and we will stick to it. »
Gronholm and Loeb have both won 5 rallies in this 2007 season, plus one won by Hirvonen. There are still 5 victories to be claimed, most of which are on asphalt, which means everything is still possible for Loeb.
« It’s a good rally, fast and mainly on asphalt… it should be good. » he continued.
« It’s important to have the right feeling here. I appreciate this rally and it’s really one of the few. Moreover, with all this tarmac, it should suit me quite well… »
Loeb has already won the Spanish Rally twice, in 2005 and 2006, and he hopes to replicate these performances to pay tribute to Colin McRae, who passed away nearly a month ago… Another tribute will also be paid to him before the first stage in Querol on Friday.
