Bernie Ecclestone, in an interview, advised McLaren Mercedes to consider the potential of Nico Rosberg to possibly replace Fernando Alonso in the event of the Spaniard’s departure.
« If Alonso were to leave, in Ron Dennis’s position, I would choose Rosberg, » commented the Formula 1 financial chief to a German newspaper.
« He is German and speaks German. In all respects, he would be the man for the job. »
Ecclestone mentioned that Alonso might go to Ferrari in 2009 after taking a sabbatical next year. But the Spaniard refuted the Briton’s claims.
« I have no news about Ferrari, insisted Alonso.
Rosberg is still under contract with Williams in 2008, but for several days now, he has been showing interest in major teams like Ferrari and McLaren. In less than a week, the 22-year-old driver has expressed his desire to one day go to Ferrari or to become next year Hamilton’s teammate at McLaren.
Alonso once again shows that he is the key to transfers.
