Lewis Hamilton, leader of the World Drivers’ Championship, has just taken a big step forward towards the world title. Indeed, he scored 10 points at this Grand Prix compared to 0 points for his main rival: Fernando Alonso.

The Briton stated at the press conference that this victory and this lead in the drivers’ world championship with two races to go gave him a new surge of confidence.

Lewis, aged 22, could win the drivers’ world championship as early as the next race, and would thus be the youngest world champion in the history of F1.

Alonso, during this Grand Prix, abandoned all hope of a third world crown after retiring at the Japanese Grand Prix. Hamilton is now 12 points ahead of Alonso, and it would take a miracle for the Spaniard to catch up with the Englishman.

Hamilton comments:

“I was driving in the wet, and on the last lap I thought of Senna and Prost. I’m on the right path to achieve the same feats as them.”

Lewis, in only his 15th F1 Grand Prix, once again demonstrated his full potential by winning on a wet track under very difficult conditions, adding a 4th victory to his record.

“It can still happen a lot of things during these last two Grand Prix, as the Fuji GP showed, but it’s certain that being world champion would be a great boost of confidence for me.”

Hamilton also admitted that he was lucky that when Kubica collided with him, it did not cause any damage to the McLaren.

“He was very cunning. I couldn’t see in my mirrors because of all that rain.”

“It was probably the longest race of my life, it seemed endless.”
