The Red Bull team is one of the few teams that managed to turn the rain into an ally throughout the weekend. After great qualifying sessions, especially Webber’s, it was therefore logical that under the same climatic conditions, the team would be competitive. But…

We were expecting Webber, but it’s ultimately Coulthard who scores the points in Japan. And for good reason, the Scot finishes in 4th place, which turns out to be a performance given the external constraints.

As for Webber, he embodies bad luck for this Japanese meeting because while he was following the safety car, Vettel came and crashed into him, ending his hopes of a podium. Frustrating!

David Coulthard – 4th

“It was very, very difficult. It’s a crazy thing to be a race car driver in these conditions. On one hand, you’re scared, but on the other, you’re holding onto your life by a thread.”

“I am happy to score points, but obviously I think of the team who would have liked to score even more points with Webber. I am glad the race is over but it was exciting to participate in it.”

Marc Webber – abandonment

“It was a completely disastrous race. We were in great shape to challenge Lewis for first place today. We were strong and I didn’t make any mistakes despite the difficult conditions, the cars were constantly aquaplaning and visibility was very reduced.”

“The accident of Fernando caused a second intervention of the safety car. I wanted to finish the race but Vettel came up too fast behind me at a braking point and hit me. All my work undertaken over two days was destroyed in a second. I think today he will have learned a number of things that he won’t forget any time soon!”

Christian Horner – Director

“In Formula One you face a lot of emotions, and that was the case today with a fantastic race. Marc continued to run fast and today he had to win the race. Obviously, it was very disappointing that an incident occurred behind his car, but on days like today, I guess something can happen.”

“David used his experience and performed well throughout the race. It’s frustrating because fourth place would normally be a good result for us, but under today’s circumstances, we could have had both drivers in the points. This would have raised us even more in the Constructors’ Championship.”
