Spyker once again shows the progress made during these past weeks. Indeed, the two cars of Sutil and Yamamoto finished the race ahead of several other competitors such as Toyota or Honda.

It is Sutil who will have the most regrets tonight as he was just inches away from winning the point for 8th place but ended up in 9th position. As for Yamamoto, he is proud to have completed his race and finished in a respectable 12th place.

There are only two Grand Prix left to score their first championship point, today was a big opportunity that slipped away…

Adrian Sutil – 9th

“It was a tough race for everyone, with a lot of water on the track and long periods behind the safety car. In these very difficult circumstances, I think we made some good decisions, and in the end, we had the right balance on the car.”

“We were able to compete at the level of our opponents, often changing positions, and we came very close to earning our first point, but in the end, I finished in 9th place. Progress is noticeable from GP to GP. In special atmospheric conditions like today, I think we are very strong.”

Sakon Yamamoto – 12th

“It was a really tough race, probably the toughest I’ve ever experienced, because the atmospheric conditions made it really difficult at any moment and at any speed. Even behind the safety car, you couldn’t see 20m ahead.”

“I think we should also consider the Japanese supporters because they have been present in the cold and humidity. I was very happy to finish my home Grand Prix in front of them. Now I want to finish the next race with an even better result.”

Mike Gascoyne – Technical Director

“It’s a case where emotions are mixed for us. We had a very good day, with a race full of drivers and the team in very difficult conditions, but it’s also disappointing not to have scored a point. Again in wet conditions, we showed we were on the right strategy. Although we were unfortunate with Adrian because the second safety car period came into play when he was supposed to pit, and he lost several positions.”

“We could still recover some of them, but it was too close. Sakon produced a very good race again and although we are happy to finish ahead of competitors like Honda or Toyota, ultimately it’s a disappointment not to have scored our first point.”
