After an absolutely fabulous Japanese Grand Prix filled with many twists and turns, the final outcome of this 2007 season seems to be largely taking shape.

In fact, Hamilton, having scored 10 points while Alonso scored none, could be declared world champion in a week in China. Because the young prodigy now has a 12-point lead over the Spaniard.

Räikkönen is dangerously closing in on Alonso and is now only 5 points behind. Massa, Heidfeld, and Kubica are still respectively 4th, 5th, and 6th. Kovalainen is closing in on Kubica and is now only 5 points behind, thanks to his 8 points gained in the race.

Coulthard moves up one place, he is 11th level on points with Wurz and moves ahead of his teammate Webber. Finally, Liuzzi scores his first point.

In the constructors’ standings, there is no change in terms of positions. The top 5 teams are consolidating their positions, particularly Renault, in 3rd place, which sees the threat of Williams, in 4th, moving away. It is now Williams that is threatened by Red Bull, 5th, which comes within 5 points of the British team. Finally, Toro Rosso scores its first point in this year 2007.
