Everything you need to know about Season 10 of Formula E
The Formula E single-seaters are getting ready to return to the urban circuits of major cities. For this tenth season, which marks the second year of the third generation single-seaters, the competition promises to be exciting once again. Technology, drivers, constructors, schedule... An overview of the main developments in order to follow the season that begins on January 13th in Mexico.

Season 10, second year for Gen3
Season 9 marked the arrival of the Gen3 single-seaters in Formula E. After Gen1 (2014-2018), where drivers had to change cars mid-race, and Gen2 (2019-2022) with a greater range and capable of completing a full race, drivers discovered last year a single-seater that offered numerous innovations compared to its predecessors.
With a maximum power of 350 kW, approximately 470 horsepower, the Gen3 can exceed 300 km/h and achieve 0 to 100 km/h in 2.4 seconds. The battery, supplied by WAE (Williams Advanced Engineering) for all teams, has a capacity of 40 kWh with a weight of 284 kilograms. Finally, the total weight of the single-seater has been reduced by about fifty kilograms compared to the Gen2, going from a minimum weight of 900 kilograms to 850 kilograms.
One of the main advancements of the Gen3 is the addition of a front motor, allowing for an increase in total regeneration capacity to 600 kW, or 40% of the energy used during a race. Last season, the drivers were particularly impressed by this innovation. The power of the energy recovery systems enables them to delay their braking further approaching a corner, increasing their chances of overtaking a competitor.
Finally, for the second consecutive season, it is the South Korean brand Hankook that will provide the 18-inch tires to the 22 single-seaters competing in Formula E. In line with the championship’s ecological and sustainable approach, the tires can perform well on both dry and wet tracks, reducing the need for and transportation of tires during ePrix events.
Many changes on the starting grid
As often in Formula E, the transfer market has been eventful during the offseason. Out of the 11 teams involved, only three are keeping their driver pairing, seven are renewing half of it, while one will enter season 10 with an entirely new lineup.
Compared to last season, two departures are to be noted, compensated by two arrivals, including a significant one, as it is the season 7 champion, Nyck de Vries, coming back. Alongside the Dutch driver, there will be 7 out of the 8 champions in Formula E history at the start of season 10.
DS Penske (Stoffel Vandoorne / Jean-Eric Vergne)
For this new season, the French brand DS Automobiles continues its partnership with Penske Autosport with the ambition of chasing global honors. Jean-Eric Vergne, a historic driver for the premium brand of the Stellantis group in Formula E, is returning. For the second consecutive season, the Frenchman will still have his Belgian teammate Stoffel Vandoorne in the neighboring garage. The two men, who are also teammates at Peugeot in Endurance, make up the only FE champion duo on the grid, as well as the only duo of former F1 drivers.
Maserati MSG Racing (Maximilian Günther / Jehan Daruvala)
Another brand of the Stellantis Group, Maserati is renewing half of its driver duo for season 10. Winner of the second race in Jakarta last season, Maximilian Günther continues the adventure with the Trident brand. By his side, the German driver will be joined by Indian rookie Jehan Daruvala. A Formula 2 driver since 2020 and former reserve driver at Mahindra, the Bombay native will have the opportunity to prove his worth in a team that has made progress throughout season 9.
Tag Heuer Porsche Formula E Team (Antonio Felix Da Costa / Pascal Wehrlein)
Last season, Porsche was in the title race for a long time and had their best season in Formula E since the beginning of their involvement in the electric single-seater championship in Season 6. To continue their momentum, the German brand has decided to renew their trust in Pascal Wehrlein and Antonio Felix da Costa. Contrary to last year, where he was also involved in Endurance racing, the Portuguese driver, who was the champion in Season 6 with DS, will have only one motorsport program in 2024.
ABT Cupra Formula E Team (Lucas di Grassi / Nico Müller)
For its return to Formula E, ABT had a complicated season. Last in the team standings, the partner of Spanish brand Cupra is counting on season 10 to bounce back. Still powered by a Mahindra engine, the German team can rely on the return of Lucas di Grassi with whom they won the drivers’ title in season 3. Alongside him, Nico Müller will enter his second consecutive season with ABT. Along with the two DS Penske drivers, he is the third FE grid driver to also be a full-time driver for Peugeot in the WEC.
Jaguar TCS Racing (Mitch Evans / Nick Cassidy)
The duo that Jaguar will field in season 10 will undoubtedly be one of the most formidable on the grid. Finishing second and third in the championship last season, Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy are among the drivers who have adapted best to the Gen3 cars. Alongside the two New Zealanders, the English brand finally hopes to secure its first titles in FE. Coming from Envision Racing, a team powered by Jaguar, Cassidy replaces Sam Bird who has joined McLaren.
Neom McLaren Formula E Team (Jake Hughes / Sam Bird)
After a promising start to the season marked by a podium finish and a pole position, McLaren then fell back into the pack last year. For season 10, the English brand, engaged in Formula 1, IndyCar, and Extreme E, will have a 100% British duo. In order to driver the car, still equipped with a Nissan engine, McLaren will continue with Jake Hughes. He will have a new teammate in Sam Bird, who is joining the team based in Woking after three years with Jaguar.
Andretti Formula E (Jake Dennis / Norman Nato)
Present since the early days of Formula E, the Andretti team had a fantastic season 9, as it was aboard one of their single-seaters that Jake Dennis became world champion, thanks in particular to his 11 podium finishes in 16 races. In 2024, the Englishman will have a new teammate in the form of Norman Nato. After Venturi, Jaguar, and Nissan, the French driver will thus experience his fourth team in four years of competing in FE.
Envision Racing (Robin Frijns / Sébastien Buemi)
Titled at the team championship, Envision Racing came very close to achieving a double win with its driver Nick Cassidy. Winning four races, the New Zealander has moved on to Jaguar, whose powertrain will continue to equip the Anglo-Chinese team’s single-seaters. Already with Envision for the four seasons of Gen2, Robin Frijns is making his comeback after a difficult year with ABT. He will have Sébastien Buemi as a teammate, who struggled in comparison to Cassidy last year.
Electric Racing Technology (Sergio Sette Camara / Dan Ticktum)
Exit Nio, the Chinese team present since the beginning of Formula E is now called ERT for Electric Racing Technology. Under the hood, the single-seaters, which will still be driven by Brazilian Sergio Sette Camara and Englishman Dan Ticktum, will have a homemade powertrain, meaning that it will not be manufactured with the support of an automobile manufacturer unlike the other teams.
Nissan Formula E Team (Oliver Rowland / Sasha Fenestraz)
With only one podium and one pole position in 2023, Nissan had a season that fell short of its ambitions. In order to get closer to the top spots, the French team supported by the Yokohama manufacturer will always rely on the speed of Sasha Fenestraz, and will be able to count on the return of Oliver Rowland to its ranks. In his three years at Nissan between season 5 and 7, the Englishman achieved five podium finishes and obtained his only career victory in FE so far.
Mahindra Racing (Nyck de Vries / Edoardo Mortara)
Second-to-last in the team ranking during Season 9, the Indian team is determined to turn things around and climb up the hierarchy. To achieve their goals, Mahindra has secured the services of the Season 7 champion, Dutch driver Nyck de Vries. Returning to FE after a challenging stint in F1, he will also be competing with Toyota in the WEC and will be paired with Edoardo Mortara. After spending his entire career with Venturi/Maserati, the Swiss driver is eager to get back on track, especially since he finished third in the championship during Season 8.
