The 2024 season presents a quite different grid from the previous year. It will kick off in Bahrain on the same weekend as Formula 1, from February 29th to March 2nd. Eight weeks before the first race, almost all teams have already filled their two driver positions. Four spots are still vacant after several transfers have already taken place.

Art Grand Prix

The French stable is starting a brand new cycle. Following Théo Pourchaire’s victory in the 2023 championship, Art Grand Prix had to find a replacement for him. The fortunate one is Zak O’Sullivan, who will experience his debut season in F2. The British driver finished in second place in the previous season of F3, at just 18 years old. He is also the driver with the most race wins (four victories). He didn’t win the championship due to some consistency issues, but the potential is more than present.

The second seat is not assigned yet. Victor Martins is the favorite to succeed himself. The Franco-Portuguese driver conducted tests for the team in Abu Dhabi at the end of 2023. He notably won a Grand Prix, the one in Silverstone, while he was still Théo Pourchaire’s teammate. His future remains to be confirmed.

Prema Racing

The Prema Racing team finds itself in a similar situation to Art Grand Prix. After losing the constructors’ title by 17 points, the Italian team had to part ways with Frederic Vesti. Italian driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli took advantage of this opportunity at just 17 years old. The Mercedes academy driver won the 2023 Regional Formula European Championship.

For the second seat, Oliver Bearman begins a second season. The athlete from the Ferrari program finished 6th in the standings in 2023. During this season, he also had the opportunity to drive twice for FP1 with Haas in the category just above.

Rodin Carlin

The 2023 season has been difficult for the team. Rodin Carlin has achieved his lowest points total since the 2017 season. For a second consecutive year, the team relies on Zane Maloney, despite his mixed first season. He has obtained four podiums.

In order to fill Enzo Fittipaldi’s departure, Rodin Carlin is counting on Ritomo Miyata. He is the reigning champion of the Super Formula. At 24 years old, he competed last season against Liam Lawson, who made a very notable appearance in F1 to replace Daniel Ricciardo.

Dams

The French garage is keeping its two drivers for an additional season. The two American drivers, Jak Crawford and Juan Manuel Correa, will driver the single-seaters. In his first season in 2023, Jak Crawford won a sprint race in Austria.

Juan Manuel Correa, who completed his first full season in F2, faced difficulties. In the 2023 campaign, he only scored 13 points.

Invicta Virtuosi Racing

For the 2024 season, Invicta Virtuosi Racing is counting on a rookie to replace Jack Doohan. Gabriel Bortoleto, the reigning F3 champion, will drive for the British team. He is a driver from the McLaren program.

The second seat is occupied by Kush Maini. Aged 23, he is embarking on his second season in the Formula 1 feeder series. In 2023, he achieved a podium finish in Australia.

MP Motorsport

The Dutch team relies on the same pair of drivers that it had lined up during the last race of the 2023 season. Consequently, Denis Hauger maintains his rookie status. In the F3 championship, where he served as the lead driver, he finished 4th with two race victories.

To ensure the second racing car, MP MotorSport has reiterated its confidence in Franco Colapinto. After finishing 8th in the previous championship, he is entering his third season in F2.

Van Amersfoort Racing

The second Dutch team on the grid tried a gamble for the 2024 season. Van Amersfoort Racing poached Enzo Fittipaldi from the Rodin Carlin team. He is embarking on his third season in Formula 2, although he has never achieved better than a 7th place in the championship.

A position has not been confirmed yet. Rafael Villagomez is expected to be associated with the Brazilian driver. In 2023, he had only competed in three small races in Formula 3.

Hitech Pulse Eight

The British team, which entered F2 in 2020, has acquired two new drivers for the 2023 season. For their new duo, Hitech Pulse Eight has chosen rookie Paul Aron. In the 2023 F3 season, he finished 3rd in the championship.

To complete their team, the racing stable has opted for Amaury Cordeel. The Belgian encountered difficulties in 2023, finishing 20th in the championship. This will be his third year in F2.

Campos Racing

The Spanish team has decided to shuffle its drivers. Campos Racing has recruited Isack Hadjar for 2024. The Frenchman had a few laps in Formula 1 during Free Practice 1 with Red Bull, after finishing 14th in the F2 championship.

Campos Racing has chosen a rookie to complete their duo. Pepe Marti, who finished 5th in the F2 championship, will be at the wheel of the other car. The Red Bull program driver managed to win three races in the previous season.

Trident

After an extremely challenging season, the10th place finisher in the 2023 F2 edition, the Italian team is bringing back one of its former drivers. After a season with Van Amersfoort, Richard Verschoor will be participating in his third F2 season with Trident.

By his side, the position remains vacant. Christian Mansell, 12th in the previous F3 edition, appears to be the favorite. The Australian had conducted tests for the team at Yas Marina.

PHM Racing

PHM Racing has decided to start from scratch. After a disappointing first season from the entire team (zero points scored), PHM Racing has recruited Josh Duerksen. The German-Paraguayan finished 19th in the 2023 Regional European Championship. He will officiate his first year in F2 in 2024.

The second race car has not yet been confirmed. Josh Mason, who joined in the middle of 2023 as a replacement for Brad Benavides, could be lined up. He has conducted post-season tests with the German team.
