Van Amersfoort Racing officializes Rafael Villagómez in F2 for 2024
At the age of 22, Rafael Villagómez will compete in his very first F2 season, thanks to Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR). The team made the news official on its social networks and website.

The Mexican driver started his single-seater career in 2020, in the British F4 with the Fortec Motorsport team. In 17 races, he achieved a podium finish and finished 17th in the championship.
He debuts in F3 the following year with HWA Racelab, but in 20 races, he doesn’t score any points. Rafael Villagómez joins VAR in 2022 and scores two points in F3. The Mexican driver will earn the same number of points in 2023 and finish 25th in the championship.
Villagómez will be in F2 for the 2024 season with VAR, while Enzo Fittipaldi had already been confirmed for 2023. The Dutch team has confirmed the appointment of the 22-year-old driver on their social media platforms.

“I am very excited to move up to F2. I am ready for this next level. The dynamics of an F2 car are extremely impressive, but I gained great confidence after a successful post-season test in Abu Dhabi last year. The test proved to myself and those around me that F2 is the right category to further develop as a driver. The team and I know each other very well, which will only be highly beneficial for all of us. I am very eager to continue our journey together and start the season,” says Rafael Villagómez.
As a team, we always aim for long-term cooperation with our drivers. The benefits of a long-term relationship are extremely valuable and will help Rafael progress at a high pace, as will his experience in F3, of course. Thanks to his unprecedented determination, we have seen Rafael grow and mature greatly as a driver, and he is ready to take on this next challenge. We are fully committed to providing him with our ongoing support, especially in this exciting new chapter of his racing career, says Rob Niessink, CEO of VAR.
