The winter offseason only lasts three months. But this period can seem long for the pilots, some of whom are eager to get back in their single-seaters. Unable to test his new F1 for the 2024 season, Yuki Tsunoda climbed into the cockpit of his AlphaTauri AT03 on January 23rd at Imola. Italiansupercarvideo has published footage of the Japanese driver’s testing session on their YouTube channel.

Private testing in F1 has been banned for many years. However, this does not apply to cars that are two seasons or older. Since the AT03 dates back to 2022, Tsunoda could perfectly well participate in private testing with it.

The Imola circuit will make its comeback in 2024, after being canceled last year due to heavy floods that affected the Emilia-Romagna region.

The Japanese driver will be competing in his fourth season in F1. He will remain at AlphaTauri, although the team’s name will probably be different. Tsunoda will have to prove to his team bosses that he deserves to keep his seat in 2025, or even be promoted to Red Bull. Young Austrian drivers like Liam Lawson or Isack Hadjar could join AlphaTauri in 2025.
