The new Aston Martin factory certified ISO 50001, the first in F1
For the first time in Formula 1 history, a team's factory has received the ISO 50001 standard. Aston Martin has just received this certification through its new factory based in Silverstone.

Aston Martin has become the first Formula 1 team to obtain ISO 50001 certification thanks to its renewable energy installation plan implemented with the construction of the new factory in Silverstone. For the British team, obtaining this certification represents an advantage in the development of its innovative new factory in Silverstone.
What is ISO 50001 standard?
The international standard ISO 50001, developed by ISO, the International Organization for Standardization, aims to maintain and improve an energy management system within a large company or high-level organization. This standard helps continuously improve the efficiency of organizations, as well as the costs related to energy and greenhouse gas emissions.
« Aston Martin’s objective with the ISO 50001 standard is to improve energy performance, increase energy efficiency, and reduce energy consumption and associated costs. An energy management system monitors consumption on the Silverstone AMR technology campus and is designed to ensure a systematic approach to continuously improving energy performance », explains the official website of the British team.
Important milestones towards the evolution of motorsport.
Following the certification of this standard received, the British team has detailed a plan composed of four pillars: « cutting-edge energy policy, » advanced energy planning, « robust operational processes and controls, and « rigorous energy management review processes. All these key elements will allow the Silverstone factory to develop sustainably.
This is another example of how Aston Martin is making a positive difference for the future and changing perceptions of our industry while aligning with the FIA’s 2020-2030 environmental strategy. Committing to sustainability and implementing initiatives are important steps towards the evolution of motorsport, said Ben Fitzgerald, Aston Martin’s Director of Operations.
The long-term benefits of achieving ISO 50001 certification include greater energy efficiency, improved financial performance, risk reduction, and cost savings. Through our responsible business strategy, “Make a Mark,” we are committed to promoting positive progress for the planet and our staff, he added.
Parveer Ramana, leader of the sustainability and environment team at Silverstone, also spoke. « One requirement of the standard is to reduce our energy consumption and demonstrate improvement in energy performance over time, which is increasingly important in a world facing catastrophic climate change. »
By optimizing energy performance, preserving resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and integrating renewable energy technology into our operations, our team will benefit as much as the planet, she concluded.
This certification comes at just the right time, in a period where the FIA and Formula 1 are increasingly working on numerous environmental and sustainability issues. All stakeholders in motorsport are embracing the FIA’s primary goal: the Net Zero Carbon 2030 plan.
