It’s not only Formula 1 teams that are hiring new people. A few weeks ago, Tim Goss announced his departure from the FIA, where he held the position of Technical Director of the single-seaters, to join Visa Cash App RB and become the Technical Director of the team based in Faenza.

To replace him, the governing body of motorsport has recruited Jan Monchaux. The 45-year-old Franco-German engineer is known in the paddock for being, among other things, the technical director of Alfa Romeo between 2019 and 2023. He left the Swiss team in September of last year with the arrival of James Key from McLaren.

Jan Monchaux will team up with Nikolas Tombazis, together they will ensure the legality of the various Formula 1 cars and are also expected to work on the new generation of cars that will be introduced in 2026.

“I am very happy to join the FIA as the technical director and I am looking forward to taking on the new challenges that this role entails. I have worked on the competitor’s side for many years, but now the opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of the sport with the governing body is a prospect that I appreciate,” Jan Monchaux rejoices.

I am delighted to welcome Jan to the FIA to fulfill an important role in the technical department and in the development of future FIA regulations for the sport. Jan’s arrival will strengthen our extensive technical expertise, says Nikolas Tombazis, FIA’s Director of Single-Seaters.
