F2 back on track for three days of testing in Spain

Formula 2 makes its return to the Circuit de Barcelone-Catalogne from Tuesday April 23 to Thursday April 25. Many expect this to be a pivotal race for the entire season's grid. Over the three days, teams and drivers will have the opportunity to test new configurations and resolve problems from the first phase of the 2024 campaign.

The tests started today and end on Thursday. They take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, with six hours of track time each day, to give teams and drivers enough time to clock up the mileage. The sessions on the first and second days will run from 09:00 to 12:00 local time and from 14:00 to 17:00 local time. The third and final day will have a slightly modified schedule in the afternoon: from 13:00 to 16:00 local time. Teams will have access to five sets of the hard compound Pirelli tires with white sidewalls and three sets of the soft compound Pirelli tires marked in red, as well as three sets of rain tires, if the weather requires, for each driver.

Zane Maloney leading the championship after 3 rounds

In terms of rankings, Maloney and Rodin Motorsport are leading the pack in both Championships. Rodin Motorsport is leading in the Teams and Drivers Championships, with Zane Maloney in the lead with 62 points. Paul Aron from Hitech Pulse-Eight is currently the highest-ranked rookie driver in the championship, second behind Maloney with 47 points. He has achieved three podium finishes so far this year. Enzo Fittipaldi is the only driver to have set more than one fastest lap this season. Roman Stanek is the new Formula 2 champion, having won the Melbourne Sprint Race for Trident. Gabriel Bortoleto is the only rookie in 2024 to have achieved pole position. The Invicta Racing driver inherited first place after his teammate Kush Maini was disqualified in Bahrain. Maini was the fastest driver in the morning sessions of days 1 and 2 in the season 2023 tests. Jack Doohan was the fastest driver in the afternoons for Invicta last season on days 1 and 2. Finally, Théo Pourchaire was the fastest driver last year in the same event, finishing first for ART Grand Prix with a time of 1:23.943.

Those who wish to follow these F2 trials will have the opportunity to do so with live timing on the official Formula 2 website. And for those who may not be available, the reports and reactions from the Barcelona drivers and teams will be online at the end of each test day on Motors Inside.
