The Scuderia is about to unveil a unique look for the Miami Grand Prix, which will reference the manufacturer’s heritage in a contemporary way, with two shades of blue on the cars of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

This change will be made to honor the historic place of Ferrari in the environment of motorsport in the United States, marking the 70th anniversary of the manufacturer in the American market.

In 1964, Ferrari had already presented a special white and blue livery for the United States, which was used in the last two races of that season. The cars were in the colors of the North American Racing Team as a protest against the Italian federation, on Enzo Ferrari’s orders.

The first color, Azzurro La Plata, is a light blue hue and is the national racing color of Argentina. It is also a shade similar to the one worn by the double champion Alberto Ascari, the Italian often wearing a jersey of this color as well as a matching helmet.

Other connections of Ferrari with this color go back to the racing suits of the 1960s, with drivers like John Surtees and Chris Amon racing in blue, just like Niki Lauda in his first season with the team. Azzurro Dino is a darker shade, last worn in 1974, recently by Clay Regazzoni before the iconic red color became the standard for racing suits.

It has been confirmed so far that the special livery will be unveiled directly in Florida. Although a date has not been confirmed for this launch, there is a wide range of events celebrating the brand, starting from April 28 and reaching its peak at the Miami Grand Prix, with a pair of 296 GTS blue leading a parade of Ferrari machines around the track.

Last year, Ferrari sported a special livery for the Italian Grand Prix, with yellow, paying tribute to the winning 499P at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
