Mercedes and Hamilton roadshow through New York to celebrate Whatsapp’s new F1 emoji
Whatsapp and Mercedes have signed a partnership for the end of 2023. To mark the occasion and the announcement of a new emoji, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton were on hand on New York's 5th Avenue to put on a show.
On the occasion of the arrival of a new emoji in the colors of Mercedes but also to celebrate the arrival of Formula 1 in the American continent, Whatsapp and Mercedes organized a roadshow in the streets of New York. Lewis Hamilton was the one who took part in the show, accompanied by the W12.
The German team and the American messaging giant, which belongs to Meta (Facebook group), went big. In addition to closing an entire avenue in New York, Whatsapp also rented the Empire State Building, one of the most famous skyscrapers in the Big Apple, to have the new emoji projected there.
The activation of these illuminations at nightfall was the highlight of an intense evening where Lewis Hamilton, let us recall, seven-time F1 world champion as well as Toto Wolff, the director of Mercedes, were accompanied by Will Cathcart, head of WhatsApp to inaugurate this exceptional lighting display. The events that followed included a dynamic light show projecting the emoji in question, zooming through the iconic streets of the city, in front of an audience of personalities and special guests, including celebrities and other athletes invited for the occasion.
Lewis Hamilton said during the conference: « I’ve always felt a special connection with the United States. I remember going to New York as a kid and dreaming about living in the city and I’ve been fortunate to spend a lot of time here since then. »
« I’ve had many incredible experiences and connected with many amazing people in New York, but to drive an F1 car down Fifth Avenue and light up the Empire State Building is incredibly special. It’s something I never thought would be possible. »
