Adrian Newey, the aerodynamic genius in Formula 1, is at the center of all discussions in the paddock. While many think he will head to Ferrari, others mention the possibility of him joining Aston Martin. But Newey himself has revealed that he feels “a little tired” and that he needs to take a step back to reflect on his future after Red Bull.

After spending nearly two decades with the Austrian team, the architect of Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen’s success, Newey will end this collaboration in the first quarter of 2025. Despite speculation about his next move, he emphasized to Sky Sports F1 the honor of working with the Red Bull team and expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to this adventure.

« Honestly, when I joined the team, I had no idea where we were going to end up – it was really a big professional risk for me, and since then, it has been an incredible adventure. It has been a huge honor to work with all these amazing guys and girls at the factory, within the race team. It was simply fabulous », he said on British media microphone.

« Formula 1 is very immersive – I have been in it for a long time now,» he expressed. « 2021 has been a truly hectic year due to the tight battle with Mercedes throughout the championship and at the same time, putting all the research and development into the [RB]18, which was the father of this generation of cars. At some point, I think I just felt, as Forrest Gump said, that I was ‘a little tired’. »

Adrian Newey is going to take a few days off.

The British designer feels the weight of the intensity of F1 and believes it is time to take a break. He mentioned that he does not need to work to support himself, but he does it out of passion. Thus, he plans to travel to France with his wife and dogs to enjoy life after so many years of dedication to his profession.

We will probably go on a trip, we will take a motorhome or something similar and we will drive down through France and simply enjoy life. Then, maybe at some point, I don’t know when, I will say, ‘that’s it, that will be the next adventure’. But for now, there is no plan, he admitted.

As far as the future is concerned, Newey does not feel concerned about the upcoming regulatory changes in 2026 or the possibility of working with Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari. He prefers to take the time to rest and see what the future holds for him, without rushing into a new adventure.

What is certain is that his absence at Red Bull will be felt after a long and fruitful collaboration, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the world of Formula 1. His next chapter is yet to be written, but one thing is certain: the aerodynamics genius will take the necessary time to decide on his next step, far from the turmoil of competition.
