Valtteri Bottas qualifies for the gravel world championships
When Valtteri Bottas is not in a Formula 1 car, he is on a bike. Indeed, the enthusiast finished sixth in a 170 km race and qualified for the Gravel World Championships, which will take place on October 5 and 6.
The Sauber driver announced his qualification for the gravel cycling world championships in Flanders, Belgium. He will also be accompanied by his girlfriend, Australian Tiffany Cromwell, a double stage winner in the women’s Giro.
He has been cycling himself for a few years now, and dedicates himself to it when he has free time. Whenever he has the opportunity, he gets on his bike and takes part in races. This time, it’s for a good cause, as he does it on behalf of a charitable foundation to which he donates the prizes he wins. He is the ambassador of the Princess Charlene Foundation. The Monaco resident has announced that he will auction off his racing kit to support the foundation’s activities.
Valtteri Bottas registered for the Swartberg 100, a 170 km gravel race in South Africa with 2,900 meters of positive elevation. By finishing sixth, he qualified for the gravel world championships, which will take place on October 5th and 6th in the Flanders region of Belgium.
No conflicts with its Formula 1 championship as no Grand Prix is scheduled that weekend. The cycling competition takes place between the Singapore Grand Prix (September 22) and the United States Grand Prix (October 20). This championship brings together the best cyclists from around the world and will award the famous rainbow jersey at the finish.
