Standings after Imola: Lando Norris claws back points, Charles Leclerc moves up to second in the championship
The Italian weekend served Charles Leclerc well. By finishing third in the race, he moved up to second place in the 2024 championship. Max Verstappen is flying ever further away, while Lando Norris is edging ever closer to the Top 3 and Sergio Pérez.

The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix allowed Charles Leclerc, in front of his Italian fans, to secure another podium by clinching third place behind Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. His third place gives him valuable points (15) and a second place in the general season standings. The Monegasque (113 points) is therefore taking the place of Sergio Pérez (107 points).
This first Grand Prix in Europe was also an opportunity for Lando Norris to continue to chase as many points as possible. And it’s done for the British driver who finished second in Imola. This second place on the podium therefore offers him 18 valuable points and a fourth place in the championship with 101 points. Therefore, concern on the side of Perez (107 points) who only has 6 points more than the McLaren driver.
On Max Verstappen’s side, the season is almost wrapped up for him. By setting records, 7 consecutive poles at the start of the season just like Alain Prost in 1993 or even 8 consecutive poles overall since Abu Dhabi, like the legend Ayrton Senna between 1988 and 1989, Verstappen confirms his position as the leader in the championship with 5 wins and 161 points on the scoreboard.
Therefore, see you in Monaco on the 26th of May for a new European Grand Prix and a new podium that could change everything for Lando Norris, especially with a place in the top 3 of the 2024 driver championship.
