Schumacher family compensated after publication of “fake interview” generated by AI
Michael Schumacher's family has received several thousand euros in compensation from a German magazine that published an AI-generated « interview » in April 2023. This created a controversy surrounding the case.

The family of Michael Schumacher received a compensation of £170,026 (€200,000) from the publishers of a German magazine that published an interview generated by Artificial Intelligence with the F1 legend.
The German magazine Die Aktuelle, known for its gossip, claimed to have obtained an exclusive interview with the seven-time world champion, displaying a photo with the title « Michael Schumacher, the first interview » on its cover in April 2023.
A subtitle accompanying the article said: “It sounded deceptively real.” Inside, it was revealed that the quotes had been generated by AI. The editor-in-chief of Die Aktuelle was fired two days after the article was published, while the media group Funke apologized to the Schumacher family.
Michael Schumacher, 55 years old, has not been seen in public since he suffered severe head injuries in a skiing accident during a family vacation in the French Alps in December 2013. His family has kept information about his health strictly private, and only a few people are allowed to visit him.
Speaking in the 2021 Netflix documentary Schumacher, Michael’s wife, Corinna, said: « Michael is here. Different, but he is here, and it gives us strength, I think. He still shows me every day how strong he is. »
We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to improve Michael and to make him comfortable. And simply so he feels our family, our connection.
« Whatever happens, I will do everything I can. We will all do it. We are trying to continue as a family, as Michael liked and still likes. And we continue with our lives. ‘Private is private’, as he always used to say. It is very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his privacy as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we protect Michael. »
