ART Grand Prix driver Zak O'Sullivan won the long Formula 2 race at Monaco this Sunday morning, taking advantage of a virtual safety car triggered on the penultimate lap. Isack Hadjar, who had been on course to win the race, finished second, much to everyone's dismay and incomprehension. Paul Aron takes the podium.

The Monaco Grand Prix always remains surprising. Ranked 15th on the starting grid and on a circuit where it is almost impossible to overtake, it is indeed the ART GP driver, Zak O’Sullivan, who wins the feature race this Sunday morning thanks to a perfect strategy from his team and a lot of luck.

For a long time virtually in the lead, Isack Hadjar has never been in the lead of the Grand Prix. Starting 3rd, he benefited from a gained position from the start due to the poor takeoff of the other Frenchman, Victor Martins. In second place for a long part of the race, he also benefited from a gearbox issue on Robert Verschoor’s car to virtually take the lead of the race. However, in Monaco, nothing ever goes as planned. While Zak O’Sullivan still had one pit stop to make, it is the success of the right strategy that finally allows O’Sullivan to come out of the pits ahead of the Frenchman.

Victor Martins, at ART GP, also benefited from this strategy of pitting late. 16th at the first corner when he was second on the grid, he finally finished 9th and scored a few unexpected points after his failed start.

Zane Maloney, the championship leader until now, lost the championship lead in F2 this Sunday. Paul Aron took advantage of the setbacks of the Barbadian driver and his podium this Sunday to take the lead ahead of Isack Hadjar. So just a few seconds away this Sunday, Isack Hadjar could have both won the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix and taken the lead in the championship. The French driver was greatly annoyed on the radio and even when he got out of his seat before getting on the podium.

« I don’t want to talk. How can we lose this race! He shouted on the radio. So he will have to keep pushing next month in Barcelona to try to take the lead from Paul Aron.
