An unusual event took place in the Principality. An unmanned inflatable boat collided with two other vessels in the port of Monte-Carlo, during the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend.

A video that has gone viral on social media captured the moment a boat collided with a dinghy and a nearby yacht, before coming to a stop on the dock. Two pedestrians were seen taking cover as debris flew, but there were reportedly no injuries in the incident.

The accident occurred during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, along the famous Billionaires’ Row in the port of Monte Carlo, one of the most exclusive places in the world. Firefighters and rescue teams arrived at the scene of the incident and towed the out-of-control boat away from the scene.

A person sharing images on Instagram wrote: Crazy crash in Monaco today. Nobody was on board or injured. VERY lucky !!! Wearing a kill switch properly would have prevented this! Please wear them. Consider buying wireless options if you don’t want to wear the lanyard.

Another person, who posted the video on X (formerly Twitter), wrote: “Could this be the most expensive crash in @Monaco this weekend?”

Port Hercules is a playground for the rich and famous, with a berth costing between €8,000 and €128,000 depending on the location and size of the boat, according to ESPN. There is even a fee of €3,000 just to enter the port.

A taxi boat without passengers

The crash occurred with only one passenger, the driver of the boat, a taxi boat from the Port of Monaco who found himself with the gear lever stuck. The throttle stuck at full speed, only the kill switch, attached to the driver’s wrist, was able to stop the engine.

Fortunately for passersby and boaters, no one was hit by the boat. Minor damage was observed on the pontoon and some scratches on the two boats on the sides, but in the end more scared than hurt.
