Théo Pourchaire is currently second in the Formula 2 championship. The French driver still has a chance to win the title, as he trails leader Frederik Vesti by only 11 points. The race for the title is still long, according to the ART driver.

« I think the Top 5 can still compete for the championship. […] there is still one more weekend in Spa before the break. There will still be 3 more afterwards. It’s still a fairly long championship », declared the French driver to MotorInside.

In order to hope to win the title that eluded him in 2022 (Felipe Drugovich was crowned F2 world champion), the driver nurtured by the Sauber Academy must defeat a driver he knows well.

« I think Frederik Vesti is having a very good season. He has always been a very good driver. In F3 in 2020 when I raced with him, he had a very strong end of the season, finishing 4th. In F2 last year, he struggled more, but he is a very good driver. We also need to raise our level, whether it’s me on my side or the whole team together. It’s a team effort anyway », continued the driver from Grasse.

To beat the Danish driver, the current F2 vice-champion uses all available data to improve. But the driver cannot compare his data to those of his direct rival.

« I’m trying to focus on myself. We are a team, I have a teammate, we also try to see what Victor [Martins] is doing, to improve myself, to take what he does well, and on his side, we try to improve too, it’s the only way. We can’t have data acquisitions from other teams, we can only see what they do from the outside. And at this level, everything is similar, everyone is doing a great job. I’m trying to focus on myself and work as best as possible to bring out the best in myself », argued the ART Grand Prix driver.

The driver with 142 points in the constructor’s standings prefers to focus on his team and his driving in order to win the F2 world championship.

« It’s better that we focus on ourselves and do the best job possible on our side, but we are close, we are only 11 points away. On his side, he needs to think about ‘what can I improve to try to beat the other drivers’. And I’m doing the same on my side, at this level it comes down to details. Truly, every detail matters », concluded the driver.
