Esteban Ocon doesn’t want to talk about team instructions in Canada

It was an Esteban Ocon who immediately set the record straight in an interview with print journalists, including MotorsInside.com, when asked about the Canadian Grand Prix and the team orders that forced him to swap positions with Pierre Gasly.

« I’m not going to comment on all of that. I think the important thing is to move forward and focus on this weekend. What happened in Canada is in the past », he hammered to the journalists, before redirecting the conversation to this Spanish Grand Prix.

What clearly was not enough for the journalists: three minutes later, the subject is brought up again and he is reminded that he was particularly frustrated at the end of the race in Montreal. “I don’t want to go back to Canada. Like I said, I’m focusing on here. That’s all I’m going to say,” he repeated.

Promise of fair treatment

He nonetheless explained that if a similar situation arose in the future, team director Bruno Famin explained to the press that pilots will be treated fairly. « This is obviously very important to finish the season well together. This will be the case. We have been reassured that this will be the case. As I said, we are moving forward. We are turning the page on Canada and refocusing. »

When asked if the rules of engagement between teammates had been clarified, he responded in the negative. « They included giving back the position to the other pilot. This was not discussed? No, it was not discussed. »

On his side, Pierre Gasly looked back on the end of the race in Canada, indicating that there was a missed opportunity because we had a chance to take 8th place. Unfortunately, Esteban took two laps to make the exchange and Ricciardo opened a gap of two seconds. It’s a shame that it wasn’t done right away when the team asked for it, because we had two additional points to defend. I think that’s it. It’s done.
