George Russell made a big comeback during the Hungarian Grand Prix, the British driver started in 18th position and finished in 6th position. His teammate Lewis Hamilton finished in 4th position.

For the number 63 of Mercedes, the result obtained in Hungary could have been better for the team.

« I am confident that I could have been up there with Lewis Hamilton, who started in pole position. It’s one of my favorite circuits. The car always performs well here, and when you have two cars fighting for P2, it gives you a lot more options, and Lewis was really strong as well. If things had gone a little differently, he would have also been P2, so it’s a missed opportunity. We will learn from it, but the positive points are that we are ahead of Aston Martin and Ferrari. »

Before his race, the driver thought he would finish in 11th place, in the end the driver finished 3 seconds behind Oscar Piastri in 6th place. « The strategy before the race was to tell myself that P11 was realistic, and P7 if we maximize everything, it was a very good result, but also proof that this weekend was probably a missed opportunity », declared George Russell after the Grand Prix.

The English driver [George Russell] pointed out that without McLaren, they would probably be happy with their results. Indeed, McLaren recently surprised everyone by becoming the second strongest team in the championship over the last three races, behind Max Verstappen. This performance dampens Mercedes’ results.

Mercedes is currently in second place in the constructors’ championship, 229 points behind Red Bull, and holds a 39-point advantage over Aston Martin. As for the drivers, the two British drivers of the silver arrows are respectively in 4th (Lewis Hamilton) and 5th (George Russell) position in the drivers’ standings.
