Things seem to be looking up for Alpine, still in turmoil and shaken by the arrival of Flavio Briatore. Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon finished in the points in Spain, for the second consecutive race.

Finally a breath of fresh air for Alpine. The two drivers of the French team finished in the points for the second consecutive race. Starting in 7th position, Pierre Gasly finished in 9th place, while Esteban Ocon finished 10th after starting 8th. The same final positions as in Canada, meaning 3 additional points for Alpine.

« It was good to have both cars in the points for a second consecutive Grand Prix,” rejoices Esteban Ocon. « The race was difficult for us with the balance of the car and some tricky relays, but despite that, we managed to bring the car back into the top ten and that’s satisfying.”

He admits, however, that it was tight with Nico Hülkenberg at the end of the race, but he was able to maintain his pace and take the last point on the track. We have things to analyze, such as why the car was more difficult to drive in race conditions because I was sliding a lot. Despite this, we were much more competitive this weekend and we come out with a good reward.

Regarding the next race, in Spielberg next week, Esteban Ocon indicates that they will aim to continue our series of points in Austria where we will have two opportunities to score points with the Sprint.

Our best race of the season

With another two points gained, Pierre Gasly was even more satisfied with his weekend, even hailing their best race of the season as a team. He said he was very happy on Sunday, after a much better qualifying than expected on Saturday.

We had a good qualification on Saturday, which put us in a position to do well with a ninth place today. We executed the race well with the two-stop strategy and managed each relay well. We almost got the eighth place and missed it by a small margin on the last lap, but I gave it my all, admits the native of Rouen.

He is still happy to have achieved such a solid race where we battled with two fast cars – the McLaren at the beginning and then the Red Bull at the end – so it’s positive for us. He says they now have to understand why their package was so performing in Spain and draw lessons for the future. We are making progress in the right direction, it is our third consecutive race in the points, and we must continue like this! enthuses Pierre Gasly.

Team principal Bruno Famin is also pleased to have both cars in the points once again and to score points in the last three Grand Prix. It is a positive trend that we must continue. We were better on this track and we need to analyze the reasons to continue improving our overall package. The race was a tough challenge with two stops for both cars. Both drivers did a good job, especially in terms of tyre management, energy, and fuel. Next, we have the Sprint weekend in Austria where we aim to continue our positive streak in the points »,” he concludes.
