Points penalty for Max Verstappen after his incident with Norris
Max Verstappen, who had collided with the British driver during the Austrian Grand Prix, was penalized two points on his license. This penalty is in addition to the 10 seconds he received during the race.
During the 64th lap of the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, Lando Norris’ race suddenly came to an end. Colliding with race leader Max Verstappen, both emerged from the accident with punctured tires.
Following their contact, the two cars had to urgently head to the pits. But unlike the reigning world champion, the British driver never got back on track.
The first penalty
While Max Verstappen was able to continue his race, the FIA did not take long to react. The race stewards who were able to review the accident decided to penalize the driver by 10 seconds on his final time. A penalty that was hard to swallow for the Dutchman who was leading the race before.
The accident causing him to drop to fifth place in the standings, Max Verstappen will finish off the podium for a home race at the Red Bull Ring. He will still score 10 points.
A second penalty
The story that seemed to be over after the determined responsibilities of both pilots, however, is a second penalty that will be handed to the Dutch driver after the race. Max Verstappen, who had only two so far, now has four penalty points on his super license.
With a limit of 12 points before being banned from the race, he is still far from not being able to drive anymore. But penalties come quickly in F1 and Red Bull will now have to be more careful.
