During the first free practice session of the British Grand Prix, the Aston Martin team was penalized by the race stewards for an incident involving its Canadian driver, Lance Stroll.
Accused of unjustifiably impeding car number 16 (Charles Leclerc) in Turn 12, the stewards decided that this warranted a penalty. In breach of Article 37.5 of the FIA Formula 1 Sporting Regulations, the stewards have imposed a formal warning on driver Lance Stroll and a hefty fine of 15,000 euros on the Aston Martin team.
This sanction was motivated by the fact that the team had not provided adequate and timely radio information on the approach of Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari, launched on a timed lap. The Monegasque driver had to avoid the accident by dangerously avoiding the Aston Martin.
The team acknowledged that it did not provide timely and adequate radio information about the approach of car 16. Car 16 had to perform an evasive maneuver, explains the FIA statement.
Carlos Sainz Jr, who was arriving behind Charles Leclerc, also had to brake to avoid an accident.
The action judged:
