French driver Isack Hadjar warned by the FIA, 20,000 € fine for Red Bull after FP1

It's a big penalty for a rookie. French driver Isack Hadjar has been formally warned by the FIA stewards and his team has been asked to pay a fine of €20,000 for poor communication. This stems from the major incident during Free Practice 1 where Lando Norris almost collided with the Red Bull driven by Hadjar.

This afternoon, Isack Hadjar was promoted to Formula 1 by Red Bull for a learning session of free practice 1. If the time wasn’t there for the French driver, it’s especially the impressive images of the wheel lock-up of the McLaren, which was approaching at full speed behind the Red Bull at a slow pace.

The FIA reviewed the footage and decided to send Red Bull a hefty bill. A fine of €20,000 was thus requested from the Milton Keynes team who, according to the stewards, had not warned the driver in a timely and appropriate manner of the approach of car 4. The driver of car 4 had to brake suddenly and leave the track to avoid a collision. The team of car 37 admitted that they had not given their driver the necessary advice.

Lance Stroll also hampered another driver during FP1 and Aston Martin was fined “only” €15,000. The FIA believes that the penalty imposed is higher than the one imposed for another incident of hindrance during this session because this incident was judged more serious. Indeed, Isack Hadjar being a rookie, this kind of situation cannot be handled only by the driver, who must also take charge of all the settings and the machine he has in hand.

The FIA nevertheless formally sanctioned Hadjar with a warning.
