Starting from pole position, George Russell retires at home

George Russell, who started from pole position, had to retire in the middle of the race due to reliability issues. He was in 4th position at the time of his retirement.

It wasn’t George Russell’s day. With a perfect qualifying lap that put him in pole position for the Grand Prix, the British driver had to concede the lead of the race halfway through after experiencing difficulties in the rain and losing places to the McLarens.

After changing tires and going back out in 4th position with intermediates, George Russell’s team, Mercedes, called their driver back to the pits to retire.

Without giving detailed explanations at the time, Mercedes provided more information later. For your information, George had to retire due to a potential water issue, the team confirmed to Lewis Hamilton during the race.
