Aston Martin wants to draw inspiration from McLaren and Mercedes for the rest of its season

For the first time from Canada, the two Aston Martins returned in the points with the 7th and 8th positions at the end of the Silverstone Grand Prix. Probably an opportunity for the team to improve its performance by drawing inspiration from other teams equipped with a Mercedes engine.

After two very difficult Grand Prix races for the team based in Silverstone, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll crossed the finish line in the points, thus bringing 10 points to the team in the ranking. A lesser evil for Aston Martin, which struggles to find its pace from last year and sees some teams, like Haas, almost catch up with it. An inconceivable situation for the Spanish driver, who hopes that the performance in Silverstone could be a good springboard for the rest of the season.

« It was a good result for us today, with both cars scoring points in the top 10. I felt more competitive this weekend and it seemed like we were in our natural position, which is more encouraging than the last races.
» For the Spaniard, with his 32 wins, the team regained a “feeling of normalcy last weekend” being able to keep up the pace to snag places in the top 10, positions that he hadn’t been used to after two very painful weeks.

In Spain, he only finished 12th before living a nightmare on the Red Bull Ring by finishing second to last. So it’s a return to business for Alonso, who hopes that this return to form will not just be temporary and will allow the British team to regain its past form.

Is a return to the top on the cards for Aston Martin?

The Spielberg race may have been a turning point in Aston Martin’s season. Finishing in 13th and 18th position, the two drivers were never in a position to score points. A worrying situation for a team that had high hopes for this season. After the Grand Prix, a meeting was even imposed, during which the idea of a new development direction emerged following the failure of the improvements made at Imola. A new approach that seems to satisfy both drivers.

Seventh and eighth, I think these are more or less the positions we had before Imola, so yes, we have returned to our usual position and we are happy about it. After Austria, we regrouped and understood that the directions taken may not have been the right ones. We are happy to be back in the points, we felt more competitive, recently stated the double world champion.

« We were the fifth or sixth fastest team in Great Britain. Nico [Hülkenberg] was very quick throughout the weekend, but yes, we were able to fight for points.

In parallel, he spoke about the next developments planned by his team in two weeks in Budapest and claims that it is essential to respond on the track, in the same way McLaren and Mercedes, who have also experienced difficult periods in the past but are now recovering and regaining their former glory.

We must prove, stop talking and get results. We have brought many new parts to the car and some have worked, others less so. We hope to have a good surprise in Hungary. Last year, McLaren showed how much a car’s performance can change in one season. And this year, we have the example of Mercedes. There are two examples that show it’s possible, so it’s up to us to play our part. Answer in two weeks on the Hungaroring track.
