Esteban Ocon will not be the only driver to sport a tribute helmet this race weekend at the Hungaroring circuit. Lando Norris, McLaren driver, recently shared on social media a photo of his specially hand-decorated helmet, adorned with patterns and the emblematic logo of the Hungarian porcelain brand Herend.

A unique collaboration with Herend

The Herend manufactory is closely linked to Formula 1, as it designs the trophies for the Hungarian Grand Prix for the top three drivers, including those for this weekend. Known for its elegance, Herend creates these trophies from a unique oriental pattern, with no copies or replicas, highlighting the authentic beauty of its creations.

The distinctive design of this Hungarian company caught the attention of Norris and his management team eight months ago, prompting them to contact the manufacturer to design a helmet for the British driver. After months of meticulous work, the helmet is finally ready to be worn.

Herend explains: « The emerging Herend motif spreads like tendrils over the entire surface of the helmet. Among the more than 800 different colors of Herend, the choice was made for turquoise blue, and thinking about this color palette, Herend managed to design a truly unique Hungarian decor, with the unmistakable aesthetics of Herend porcelain and a pleasant harmony. According to Lando Norris’ request, referring to the driver, a hand-painted golden LN logo has been placed in the same spot on both sides of the helmet, intertwined with the Herend motif resembling tendrils.

The spectacular design of Norris’ helmet is particularly significant as it resembles the patterns of the 2023 trophies presented to the three drivers on the podium of the Hungarian Grand Prix. This connection is even more poignant because Norris had accidentally broken Max Verstappen’s trophy during the champagne celebration.

Norris, who has several times expressed his wish to change his helmet at each Grand Prix, hopes that it will bring him luck and enable him to achieve a good result, even to return to victory.

This symbolic gesture, highlighting Hungarian culture and art, adds a special dimension to this race weekend, reinforcing the connection between Formula 1 and local traditions.
