Kevin Magnussen to leave Haas at the end of the season
It's official: Kevin Magnussen is leaving Haas after two consecutive seasons with the team. Returning in 2022 after leaving in 2020, he leaves his place to another driver who will join Ollie Bearman in 2025.
Kevin Magnussen, driver at Haas, leaves the team after three consecutive seasons. This departure was confirmed this morning by Formula 1. This announcement comes after the arrival of Ollie Bearman within the team for the 2025 season. No information has been communicated yet about Magnussen’s future in the world of motorsport.
Magnussen had already left Haas at the end of 2020 to focus on endurance races, but returned two years later to replace Nikita Mazepin. His return to Haas had been marked by strong performances, making him the most decorated driver within the team.
Ayao Komatsu, team principal at Haas, wanted to thank the driver through the press release. “I want to thank Kevin for everything he has brought to us, both on the track and off it. He has truly been a pillar of our team over the years. No one has raced more for us, and we have shared memorable moments together, notably an impressive fifth place at the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix, when Kevin returned to start his second period with the team,” he expressed.
Magnussen, who had managed to score many points at the Bahrain Grand Prix, was congratulated again for his performance. He did not expect to drive a Formula 1 car that weekend, but he delivered an exceptional performance that was a great boost for the whole team and once again demonstrated his talent behind the wheel,” said Ayao Komatsu.
After so many years shared with the driver, a total of 7, Haas team principal hopes to stay in touch with Kevin Magnussen in the years to come. “Beyond that, and with the special relationship that Kevin has with the team, I hope we will find a way to continue working together in one way or another,” the director said. “We hope to be able to define this in the near future, but his extensive experience in Formula 1 and his knowledge of our operations are undeniably valuable for our growth and continuous development.”
Kevin Magnussen, who still does not have a place on the grid for next year, also expressed his feelings and his connection with the team. “I would like to warmly thank the entire MoneyGram Haas F1 Team – I am proud to have raced for such a great team in recent years. I would like to particularly thank Gene Haas for his commitment to me, especially by bringing me back in 2022, when I thought my time in Formula 1 was over. I have experienced great moments with this team – memories that I will never forget,” shared the Danish driver in the press release.
For the moment, Kevin Magnussen seems to be looking for a new seat, but he mainly wants to stay focused on the end of the season with the team. Although I am looking forward to the next chapter of my racing career, I remain fully focused on giving everything I have for the rest of the 202uto 2024 with MoneyGram Haas F1 Team.
We will have to wait for the coming weeks to have more information about the future of the driver in motorsport.
