Lewis Hamilton secured another podium this season by crossing the finish line in third place. Another good result after his surprising victory at the British Grand Prix a few weeks ago. This Sunday, the seven-time world champion reached a new milestone in his Formula 1 career by achieving a total of 200 podium finishes. Starting from fifth on the grid this weekend, the Mercedes driver fought hard for 70 laps. A battle that included tough defenses against Max Verstappen who attacked him several times, and a scary moment with the Red Bull driver during the 63rd lap.

The two men were fighting for the podium. Verstappen behind Hamilton. In attempting an overtake from very far back, the Dutchman could not avoid the collision with his rival. The Red Bull then took off from the rear, costing him dearly as the driver dropped back to fifth place. On the Mercedes driver’s side, he was able to maintain his position despite the contact and was able to celebrate his 200th podium as he should with a nice tribute to McLaren’s double, the team that launched him in F1.

« A big thank you to the public for being here this weekend. Huge congratulations to McLaren for their one-two finish. It’s my original family, I saw all the guys here, the entire team moving forward. Today the team did a great job to push this car even further even though we don’t have the pace of McLaren or Red Bull yet, we are coming back and of course there was this battle but that’s racing. I’m very happy for the points and thank you to the whole team. The battle with Max Verstappen doesn’t affect the nerves but I saw that he was coming back. In the last sector, he was particularly fast, he braked much later than me but he came through on the inside and our wheels touched when I turned, it’s a racing incident,” Lewis Hamilton said at the end of the race before saying a word about Oscar Piastri’s very first victory.

Congratulations to Oscar Piastri, he has been doing a fabulous job since he is in Formula 1 and even before. It was just a matter of time before he wins, so it’s a great day for him. He had a fabulous pace and I am very happy for him and his family.

The Mercedes driver thus achieved his 200th podium this weekend, a rather good season for him who will be driving in red next season.
