Max Verstappen: “McLaren has been the fastest in the last five-six races”
Max Verstappen praises the excellent work done by McLaren's rivals in recent races. At Red Bull, on the other hand, he says the team has some work to do over the summer break.
At a press conference on Saturday after the qualifications, Max Verstappen admitted that, in the last five or six races, his rivals from McLaren had been the best. “I think if you look at the last five or six races, they have surely been the best,” said the reigning world champion. “It’s pretty clear. And it’s good, it’s fair play for them. I think they did an excellent job.”
For Red Bull, there are still adjustments to be made and analyses to be carried out during the summer break. On our side, yes, we have some work to do. A few things to analyze during the break, he added. Since the first race until now, you know what we have done. And then, we will try to fight again in Zandvoort, see if we can really improve the situation, try to turn the situation around, try to be more competitive. I think the battle is still quite tight.
Max Verstappen emphasized the importance of minimizing errors to prevent the situation from quickly turning around. “When you make small mistakes, things can really turn around very quickly,” he said. “And yes, we have to try to use that to our advantage because it’s very challenging right now. But we’ll see. There are still so many races to go and so many things can happen. You can have the best preparation possible for each weekend, but even in that case, things can surprise you. You just have to stay focused, calm, and try to improve.”
Sergio Perez backs up McLaren comments
His teammate Sergio Perez also acknowledged that McLaren has been the best car in the last five races, especially in terms of race pace on different types of circuits. « I think they have been the best car, let’s say, for the past five races or so. On different types of circuits, they have been strong, definitely in terms of race pace. »
The summer break comes at a good time for Red Bull, offering an opportunity to analyze the season and the directions taken.
More than any other update, getting the right balance will be the main key for the team. « This will be the main goal to see what we have done, the approach we have taken, to see exactly where we are because I feel like we have been a little lost lately. »
