After Williams the day before, it is now Haas F1 team’s turn to break the curfew in the Netherlands. Personnel from the team led by Ayao Komatsu were still inside the Zandvoort circuit premises during the period when mechanics are not supposed to work on the car.

The regulations specify that no team member should be on the circuit premises for 11 hours and 30 minutes between Friday and Saturday. This period starts 14 hours and 30 minutes before the start of the third free practice session and ends 3 hours before it. In the Netherlands, the FP3 will start this Saturday at 11:30. Therefore, the curfew started on Friday at 9 p.m. and ended on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m.

Each team can break the curfew three times throughout a season. For Haas F1, this was its first violation of the rules and the American team will therefore not be sanctioned by the FIA.

During the second free practice session on Friday, Nico Hülkenberg lost control of his car at the end of the pit straight before finishing his escape along the tyre wall at the first corner. It is therefore possible that the Haas F1 mechanics may have needed time to work on the German driver’s car to repair it.
