After the recent changes that took place in Formula 2, Invicta Racing announces that Formula 3 champion Leonardo Fornaroli will join their team for the 2025 season. The Italian driver, who has just won the F3 title in Monza, is the first confirmed driver for the next Invicta season. He will participate in the end-of-season tests in Abu Dhabi to prepare for his arrival in Formula 2.

A winner in the team

Leonardo Fornaroli had a challenging Formula 3 season. With seven podiums and two pole positions with Trident, he clinched the F3 drivers’ championship title at Monza. Although not favored to be the winning champion, he managed to secure the victory by just two points. During the Monza Grand Prix, the Italian had a little scare. After leading the race, he was overtaken two laps before the end, handing the title to Gabriele Mini. Fortunately, at the last corner on the track, he managed to pass the driver ahead of him to snatch third place and the championship title.

The young driver thus becomes the first champion in the history of Formula 3 to have never won a single race during the season. His promotion to Formula 2 was hanging by a thread given the skills he had demonstrated throughout the year. From now on, it is with the Invicta Racing team that he will compete. This season, Invicta Racing welcomes Gabriel Bortoleto, second in the drivers’ championship, and Kush Maini, a little further down in the standings. The signing of the Italian therefore marks the end of the collaboration between Invicta Racing and at least one of its drivers on the grid.

The departure of a champion

Although Leonardo Fornaroli is leaving Trident, he took the opportunity to thank the team for their support throughout his journey in the discipline. With two seasons in F3 and some experiences in other categories, the reigning champion is ready to join the higher discipline. During his career, he notably stood out in the Italian F4 and Formula Regional, which allowed him to acquire significant skills for the next year. “I am so happy to celebrate my victory in F3 with this announcement,” the driver declared. “Invicta Racing has established itself as one of the best teams in F2, and I look forward to working with them for the 2025 season. Moving from the top team in F3 to the best in F2 is a dream come true.”

On his side, Andy Roche, team manager of Invicta Racing, has complete confidence in his new driver. If Leonardo Fornaroli’s abilities have shone this year, he may also be successful in Formula 2. At least, that’s what Andy Roche remains convinced of. “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Leonardo to the team for 2025,” the press release read. “Winning the FIA Formula 3 championship is an incredible feat, and we have no doubt he will do an excellent job next season.”

The Invicta Racing team is particularly renowned for developing young talents. It has already had success with several champions from Formula 3. If this year, it once again shows that it is among the best with Gabriel Bortoleto, it will have to part ways with one of its drivers. With a little luck, the Brazilian may manage to overtake Isack Hadjar in the standings, making way for Leonardo Fornaroli. However, it will be necessary to wait until the end of the year to know the verdict and see which of the two drivers will leave the team.
