The 26-year-old driver, now a double winner at home this season with his successes in Monaco and Monza, insists on the need to reset at Ferrari.

The gap between the top teams was relatively distant at Monza last Sunday. Leclerc and Ferrari nevertheless benefited from a staggered strategy, with only one pit stop, to overtake the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who had nonetheless locked out the front row on the grid. An impressive result on the Scuderia’s home turf, which delighted the Tifosi, who were present in large numbers at the circuit.

Enthusiasm to moderate

The Monegasque, however, specified that we must be careful not to get carried away following this good result: « We must not rely on the race we have just completed ».

« Monza is a very specific circuit. We were very strong this weekend, but Baku may be very different and Singapore even more so. So we have to start all over again, (he) declared to RacingNews365.

Leclerc wants to be realistic about the position of the prancing horse compared to the rest of his competitors. As a team, it’s really important for us that once back at the factory, we recover from everything that happened over the weekend. We need to set aside our emotions and regroup as a team and go back to Baku without having too high expectations, because that’s not where the team is at the moment.

Avoid a new drop in pace

Leclerc’s victory was made possible thanks to a series of improvements introduced by the Scuderia for its home race, some of which were developed specifically for the occasion. But with the radically different Azerbaijan and Singapore Grand Prix races, there is no guarantee of a new success for the team.

As a reminder, Leclerc had a series of five disappointing races after his last victory in Monaco, with only two points scored in the championship. This was partially due to the new developments introduced by the team during this period, which led to a significant drop in pace. The majority of this new package was actually later abandoned due to its lack of performance.

From Monaco to Montreal, it was a very big change from one weekend to the next. We went through three or four of the worst races of the season, simply because we were trying to understand what was happening in our car, emphasized the Monegasque.

That’s why the latter wants to temper expectations for the Scuderia. According to him, the team is not yet able to win on a regular basis.

« Once again, it is very important that not only the team, but I also think that the expectations from the outside do not become too high from one race to another, as it is not realistic. Have we taken a step forward? Yes. Is it enough to win races until the end of the season? I don’t think so yet, but we have taken a good step in the right direction. »
