Singapore Grand Prix 2024: a fourth DRS zone added
The Singapore Grand Prix 2024 is shaping up to be a year of change with the addition of a fourth DRS zone, a first since its modification in 2023. This novelty, accompanied by a partial resurfacing of the track, aims to improve overtaking opportunities and energize the race.

This weekend, the Singapore Grand Prix will bring a significant change for the drivers and teams. A fourth DRS zone will be introduced on the circuit, marking a major change for this 18th round of the season.
First used in 2008, the Singapore street circuit has already undergone several adjustments over the years, but the 2024 edition brings its share of novelty.

This fourth DRS zone will be added between turns 14 and 16, in addition to the three zones already present between turns 19 and 1, 5 and 7, as well as 13 and 14. With this change, the circuit becomes the second of the Formula 1 calendar, after Albert Park in Australia, to offer four DRS zones. This could facilitate overtaking on a track where it is usually difficult to pass.
The Marina Bay circuit had already been modified last year with the removal of turns 16 to 19, replaced by a 400-meter straight line. However, this new section had not benefited from the DRS at the time after the refusal of four teams surveyed by the FIA, which some teams and drivers, including Hamilton, had complained about. A situation now rectified in 2024.
A partial asphalt resurfacing
In addition to this modification, drivers will also be able to benefit from a partially resurfaced track. Pirelli has confirmed that sections between turns 3 to 9, 10 to 12, and 14 to 17 have been reworked to offer a smoother surface, which could improve tire management and the behavior of cars on the circuit.
The addition of this fourth DRS zone and the improvements made to the track could reshuffle the deck, especially for Ferrari who approaches this race with the ambition of clinching a second consecutive victory in Singapore. As the title fight heats up, these innovations promise an exciting show for the fans and a significant challenge for the teams.
