F1 Academy – Singapore: Both pole positions for Pulling, Doriane Pin in the Top 3
One month after Zandvoort, the F1 Academy is back this weekend in Singapore. Abbi Pulling (Alpine) clinched a double victory in the qualifying sessions. French driver Doriane Pin (Prema) will start 3rd in race 1 on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday for race 2.
The fifth and penultimate round of the F1 Academy championship started this Friday in Singapore for the 16 drivers on the grid. Leading the championship, British driver Abbi Pulling (Alpine) made a strong start by setting the two best times in qualifying, securing a double pole position.
With the 4th and 5th best times in qualifying – the two best times of each driver are retained – Doriane Pin will start 3rd in race 1 and 2nd for race 2. The Frenchwoman’s teammate at Prema, Maya Weug, secured the front row for Saturday by 28 thousandths.
Doriane Pin, placed but frustrated
Doriane Pin (119 points) seemed disappointed after the session, particularly because of a radio issue: “I would have loved to get both pole positions. In the first relay, we had a good pace, we set the best time,” she commented on Canal + microphone. “We will have to analyze the second relay, I don’t think it went as planned. We also had a radio problem. We could have done a [recovery time] that would have helped us for a last quick lap, but we didn’t do it because I didn’t have the information.”
Dauphine Abbi Pulling (190 points) in the championship, Doriane Pin (119 points) still hopes for the rest of the weekend. « We still have a P2 in Race 2. We are at the front and I think that on this track, we can overtake », said winner of the last race of the Dutch Grand Prix. The second Frenchwoman in the F1 Academy, Lola Lovinfosse, will start 12th and then 15th.”
The start of race 1 will take place this Saturday at 9:35 am, French time (Canal + Sport). The same time on Sunday for race 2, with an additional spot on the grid for Doriane Pin. We will then meet again on December 30th for the Qatar Grand Prix.
