McLaren impressed by Oscar Piastri
Oscar Piastri is currently the best rookie of the season. The former Alpine reserve driver achieved his best career result at Silverstone with a fourth place. A result that impresses members of his team.

McLaren has two of the youngest drivers on the grid. Lando Norris has been racing in F1 since 2019, but his teammate, Oscar Piastri, is one of the rookies this season.
The young Australian driver is currently 11th in the Formula 1 World Championship. The rookie is surprising the members of the Woking-based team. « Oscar’s performance is simply remarkable considering he is a rookie. Right from the start, even in training, he has shown great speed », declared Andrea Stella, the director of the McLaren team.
Oscar Piastri’s good performances allow the British team to create a challenge between the two drivers to help them improve. « This also helps to create synergies between the drivers, as each one can see what they can improve from the other. And this enhances the performances of both drivers. »
Maturity
The 22-year-old driver is impressive, but McLaren believes that the former Alpine reserve driver shows maturity in races. « Not only are we impressed, but there is a clear advantage in having two competitive drivers because they can both benefit from it », says the former engineer.
« I think we have already seen the speed that Oscar is capable of displaying. » Silverstone is an example of the skill of the Australian driver, highlights the Italian from the British team. « His ability to maintain tire grip, to drive cleanly in intense racing situations, and to manage race restarts after the safety car with hard tires was immediately evident. He has a mature racing technique, which is quite impressive for such a young guy. »
