After two successful years at Maserati during which he won two races, Maximilian Günther plans to take a step forward in his career with his move to DS Penske. The youngest winner of a Formula E race spoke to Motors Inside during the presentation of the DS E-TENSE FE25 in Paris.

Hello Maximilian.

Where are your French lessons at?

(In English). I speak a little French because I have been living in Monaco for four years and have already worked with French teams and with Stellantis (Maserati is part of the Stellantis group like DS Automobiles note). It’s not very good yet, but I understand.

What are your goals for the next season?

My goal is to win. That’s why I wanted to be part of this project because I feel a great ambition here. I see the quality of people in the team and it makes the project exciting so I am really looking forward to winning together because we have the same goals.

You have driven several single-seaters in your career. In what way is Formula E different from what you have already experienced?

The Formula E is very specific in the sense that it is mainly the driver who makes the difference. There is less grip, little aerodynamic influence, so it is more of a championship for drivers even though it is still important to have a fast car. Adaptation is the key to success because we race on several city circuits with many bumps and little time to practice. As a driver, you must be fast right away, understand the car and all systems, and give good feedback to the engineers.

Do you prefer to drive on city circuits or permanent circuits?

I think both are good, they are different challenges. But I prefer city circuits because you have to get very close to the walls, be very precise, and make as few mistakes as possible.

What do you think of the DS Automobiles brand? Have you ever had the opportunity to drive a model from this French premium brand?

I am already driving the DS 7 Performance which is in my garage in Monaco. It’s really nice to see that DS Automobiles embarked very early on the electrification of its models. The comfort you feel when driving the car as well as its performance and design are part of the brand’s values. So I am proud to represent DS Automobiles also because it is the most titled brand in the history of Formula E.

Would you rather win in Monaco or in Berlin next season?

In Monaco 100%. These are two home races for me. Everyone wants to win the championship first, but then you want to win in Monaco. It’s a very special race with a lot of history.
