During the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix, two teams were involved in a curfew violation imposed on personnel working on the cars. Red Bull and Mercedes were present at the circuit for a period of eleven hours, starting at 9:30 pm on October 25 and ending three hours before the start of the third free practice session, scheduled for 8:30 am on October 26. These hours are outside the periods authorized by the FIA for work on the cars.
However, this incident will have no regulatory repercussions. In fact, each team has two exceptions per season, allowing them to bypass this curfew without penalty. Both teams have therefore used their second exemption here, which prevents any additional sanctions from the commissioners. Strict compliance with these rules is crucial to ensure fairness and limit staff exhaustion, but these exceptions provide some flexibility to teams in critical situations.
It was the second (2nd) of the two (2) individual exceptions allowed for Red Bull Racing […] Mercedes AMG F1 Team, during the 2024 Formula 1 championship season, and no action will therefore be taken against them,” details the joint statement.
