Colapinto: “I have no seat for next year”
The Argentine driver continues to impress the Formula 1 paddock after a satisfying new Grand Prix in Mexico. Nevertheless, he wanted to deny the rumors sending him to Racing Bulls, explaining that he still doesn't have a seat for 2025.

A breath of fresh air is blowing at Williams thanks to Franco Colapinto. After a difficult qualifying session, the Argentine driver finished twelfth in the race in Mexico and continues to impress the British team to the point of completely overshadowing the American Logan Sargeant. In five races, the former Formula 2 driver has already scored five points and has always been in the top 12 during the race.
Red Bull’s interest in Colapinto
Impressive performances for a driver with so little experience, which eventually caught the eye of Red Bull. In recent days, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko have expressed a deep interest in the young Argentinian and would like to offer him a seat at Racing Bulls in 2025.
The offer is there in Milton Keynes, they can offer him a seat, reported Sky Italia. However, they still need to convince Williams to lend him.
James Vowles, the boss of the Grove team, has validated this perspective, and some sources have even mentioned discussions between the Briton and the Austrian structure to offer him a steering wheel, as he will no longer be a full-time driver for the British team which has already confirmed Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz for 2025.
« He earned his place on the starting grid, and we want to help him find it. I cannot currently say what it looks like, first because it’s very delicate and then because there’s not much to discuss at the moment », stated James Vowles.
Rumors immediately refuted by the Argentine.
The main person concerned quickly denied these speculations, revealing that he had not negotiated with any team for a seat in 2025.
« No, at the moment, I do not understand well what they are talking about. I do not know where it comes from », Colapinto said on F1 TV.
« I don’t have any seat for next year, and for the moment, I won’t be racing in Formula 1. I will probably race somewhere else. So, maybe it will be a year where I won’t be here, but I hope to show that I deserve a seat enough to come back in 2026 or 2027. That’s my goal, and that’s why I give my best in every race.
In Mexico, the Argentine once again showed all his fighting spirit. Despite a failed qualification, finished in sixteenth place. He fought in the pack and crossed the line in twelfth position. A very promising result for a driver who had never raced on this circuit: « That’s why after the qualifications, I was disappointed with the result and I was trying my best in every session to show that I deserve to be here. »
Despite all his efforts, he knows that his hopes of staying in Formula 1 are slim, with Sauber preferring to bet on an experienced driver, while Helmut Marko has announced his intention to prioritize drivers from his academy, such as Frenchman Isack Hadjar, currently second in the Formula 2 championship.
Colapinto confident of quickly regaining his place in F1
« The problem with him is that he has a long-term contract with Williams, said the Austrian to the Kleine Zeitung newspaper. Taking him on loan is not interesting for any team. You don’t want to train a driver for another team.
The Argentine remains optimistic about the future. His recent results show that he deserves his place in Formula 1, and it would not be very surprising if some teams make him an offer as early as 2026.
Before that, the former MP Motorsport driver still has to finish his season with Williams on a positive note. Points are necessary for the team in its duel against Alpine, which managed to obtain one point this weekend in Mexico thanks to Pierre Gasly. Many duels will still liven up this end of the season, which should reserve many surprises for us.
