Formula 2: the championship has tightened up at Silverstone
For the 9th round of the Formula 2 championship, the gap has narrowed between leaders Frederik Vesti and Théo Pourchaire. But beware, behind them, some have not said their final word in this title race.

At Silverstone, the Formula 2 championship was turned upside down and has somewhat reignited the title race. Frederik Vesti did not have a happy weekend to widen the gap and sees his main competitors closing in. Let’s take a look at the situation, as there are still five events left before the conclusion of this championship.
Vesti loses ground to Pourchaire
There was a 20-point gap between Théo Pourchaire and Fred Vesti, in favor of the Danish driver. At the end of this British weekend, there are now only 6 points difference. The lead that Vesti had built in several races has been almost completely eliminated due to his retirement in the main race and the good performance of the French driver.
Indeed, after being hit from behind during the restart of the safety car, Frederik Vesti had to retire due to the damage on his car. A tough blow for the championship leader, who was still ahead of Théo Pourchaire at that moment. For the French driver, this stroke of bad luck suffered by his rival was a stroke of luck: by finishing 3rd in the main race, he scored 15 points compared to 0 for Vesti.
Over the weekend, Théo Pourchaire scored 14 points against his Danish rival, bringing him back into a very good position in the championship. In Hungary, he could even take back the lead.
A tight end to the championship that could prove to be close
Behind the two leaders, there are some fairly close drivers who could turn the championship around with very good results in the upcoming races. Starting with Ayumu Iwasa. Unfortunate at Silverstone, the Japanese driver was unable to gain as many points in the championship as his rivals, but he remains in the fight: he is only 18 points behind Théo Pourchaire and 24 behind Frederik Vesti.
Two other drivers seem to be able to challenge Vesti and Pourchaire: Bearman and Martins. The two rookies have 88 points and based on their performances, they are capable of competing with the best for victory. If they are flawless in the upcoming races, there is no doubt that they will have their chance to shine at the front of this Formula 2 championship. Oliver Bearman has two wins in the feature race and Victor Martins secured his first at Silverstone. They are definitely in the mix for the end of the season.
There are five appointments left to determine the winner between these pilots.
